This book really is laugh-out-loud funny! My son kept asking me why I was laughing, because I just couldn't keep it in! (I do read alot, but very rarely ever laugh). It is my ideal romance. Girl meets boy. Girl likes boy. Girl makes fool of herself while trying to appear cool for boy. This book was written by a woman who truly understands the insecurities that girls can have, with appreciation for a good clothing sale. It was a wonderful book and great entertainment for a girl of any age. -Dayna Davis, LDSFiles.com Staff Writer Click Here to read the entire review at LDSFiles.com |
A true life, funny, inspirational LDS book that I can really relate to. My mom got to read the book first, but I was [finally] able to pick it up and read it for myself. It is exceptional! Thanks so, so much for this warm, fuzzy, and lovable story! I loved it from page one! Thank you also for letting your Annabelle CTR! -Kelsey, a 17- year-old reader from California, via email |

Former Los Bañosan Publishes New Book by Minerva Perez, Los Baños Enterprise It's the story of a lovable California girl who manages to inspire others as she navigates through a series of hilarious adventures and surprising twists when her world is turned upside down. The plot could be Elodia Strain's life but the former Los Baños resident and newly published author said the work is fiction - at least some of it. "It's a chick-flick in a book," joked Strain of her first novel "Icing on the Cake," released this month. Part comedy and part romance, Strain said she drew inspiration from her own life and those of her friends when penning the misadventures of sweet-toothed Annabelle Pleasanton. Author Elodia Strain's voice is fresh and up-to-date, perfect for the chick-lit genre. Some of her aside comments made me laugh out loud. Overall I enjoyed the story quite a bit. I'm seeing a long, successful career ahead for this novelist.

A fun, fast-paced, well written story with endearing characters .Chick lit often collects laughs at the expense of men, conventional women, and old-fashioned standards. Not so for The Icing on the Cake by Elodia Strain. This delightful, sometimes wacky story has all of the quick rejoinders, the fashionable name dropping of high-priced designer apparel, the ridiculous situations, and quirky humor of chick lit, but it's never mean. It goes beyond zany to a gentle lesson on being oneself. -Jennie Hansen, Meridian Magazine Click Here to read the entire review at MeridianMagazine.com |
Oh my goodness gracious starry-eyed surprise, this girl is hilarious! I don't normally laugh often when I read, even if I think something is funny I'll just 'ha' in my brain and move on. But this book has literally had me LOL-ing and getting a kick out of the innocently crazy life and love interest of the main character, Annabelle. Some of the one liners Elodia comes up with are just so laugh-worthy to me. And the romance was just how I like it ... not to sappy and plenty of ahhhh. If you haven't read it, I suggest putting it on your reading list. Especially if you want a nice pick-me-up. I strongly recommend it (YA's and older YW would really like it, or the young at heart like 43-year old me!).

now read twice!!! Well, I have to start out by saying that it is very hard for me to find the time to read for "fun" with small children at home. But, as I began this book I didn't want to put it down. I had to keep finding out what would happen, and as the story is written, it was as if Annabelle was talking to me (which I really loved)...This book brought back so many memories that relate oh too well!!! I cannot wait for the sequel to reach my hands!!

years old and about to enter that stage of Singles Ward and Dating Craziness. I just wanted to say that The Icing on the Cake is a wonderful book. I've read it twice now and it never seems to get old. I love the character, Annabelle, and she is so easy to relate to because she seems so far from perfect, like most of us are. I love the humor in the book. I gave it to my sister to read and she found it just as great a book as i did. I can't tell you how much I laughed while I read it...especially in the part where she's trying to escape the golf cart/blockade at the golf course. Annabelle is hilarious. -Tracee, a reader from Arizona, via email |
book in 2 days before, but by the last page I was trying to read slower so that it wouldn't be over. Annabelle and Carrie reminded me so much of myself and my best friend. I also loved the fact that I could relate to so much of everything that was going on. The characters seemed so real and it really seemed like it could be a true story, like it really could happen in real life. This book was hilarious. I found myself laugh out several times throughout this book. It was great. -Chelsea, a reader from California, via email |
